Vandernoot: Ravel Rapsodie Espagnole + Falla - LVSM FALP 609 (ds)
$7.00 USD
Jacket VG / LP EX-
This outstanding LP from La Voix de son Maitre (FALP 609, French pressing, red/silver label, "baguette"-style jacket, dowel spine, mono) features conductor André Vandernoot and the Philharmonia Orchestra’s sumptuous and sultry accounts of Falla’s El amor bruja (with mezzo-soprano Oralia Dominguez), Chabrier’s España, and Ravel’s Raspodie Espagnole, brilliantly recorded in London circa 1960.
Although Vandernoot’s versions of El amor bruja and Rapsodie Espagnole probably never sold in anything like the numbers that Giulini’s versions on Columbia did, the Belgian maestro yields absolutely nothing to his more famous Italian colleague. This is exalted conducting, and orchestral playing, by any measure, with the Philharmonia on brilliant form.
The only real flaw to the jacket concerns some wear and tear to the lower spine; otherwise it is fine. Although surfaces are not silent and there are some soft tics, in general playback remains enjoyable.
