This handsome LP – an unplayed, as-new collector’s copy – from EMI (26 395-4, Club-Sonderauflage copy – identical in every respect to original, German pressing, large dog semi-circle label, DDD stereo) features the young Dimitris Sgouros’ commanding accounts of Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat minor Op. 23 and the Concert Fantasy in G Major Op. 56, both made with Walter Weller conducting the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

These recordings were made in the spacious acoustics of Walthamstow Town Hall, London, on 7/8 April 1986 (producer: David Groves / engineer: Michael Sheady).

The reverse side of the jacket carries insightful liner notes by Robin Golding (English and French) and by Karl Ludwig Nicol (German). The striking cover photo of Sgouros was taken by Klaus Hennch.
