Koch Schwann (LP)

Jacket EX / Vinyl NM / Austrian pressing

This fascinating and rare LP from Koch Schwann (111 099 FA, Austrian pressing, yellow label, DDD stereo) features the superlative violinist Jerrold Rubenstein in little-known works for violin and orchestra by the legendary violinist, composer, and conductor Eugène Ysaÿe, warmly recorded with conductor Mendi Rodan and the Orchestre National de Belgique at the Maison de la Radio (Studio 4), Brussels, in 1987 (producer: Carl de Nys / engineer: Jan Vanwelkenhuysen.

Included are the following works for violin and orchestra by Eugene Ysaye (with timings shown in parenthesis):

Poème élégiaque Op. 12 (15’13”)

Au Rouet Op. 13 (12’40”)

Andante (7’15”)

Exil Op. 22 (9’13”)

Chant d’Hiver (13’05”)

Extase Op. 21 (10’18”)

Incidentally, the striking cover art reprints a 1907 illustration by P. Renouard entitled “Eugene Ysaye dirigent un orchestre”. There are superb liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket – provided in French, German, and English – by Michel Stockhem.

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT+. There is some minuscule edgewear, but really that is all. Otherwise, the album appears virtually as new – overall, a very fine collector’s copy.

The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT and the playback is outstanding – overall, a truly fine collector's copy.
