Heliodor (LP)

Jacket EX / Vinyl EX / German pressing

This handsome LP from Heliodor (89865, German pressing, gold label, stereo) features the enigmatic Julian von Karolyi in a mesmerizing all-Chopin recital, warmly recorded at the Beethoven-Saal, Hannover, on 1 July 1964 (artistic supervisor: Karl Faust / recording engineer: Heinz Wildhagen).

His exact program is as follows:

Piano Sonata No. 3 in B minor Op. 58

Mazurka No. 13 in A minor Op. 17 No. 4

Waltz No. 14 in E minor Op. posth.

Andante Spianato and Grande Polonaise in E-flat Major Op. 22

Something of a keyboard maverick, Karolyi distills his own very special brand of magic here, highly individual playing yet wholly inside Chopin's soundworld.

Incidentally, there are excellent liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Monika Lichtenfeld, printed in German only. The striking cover art is uncredited.

CONDITION – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT. There is minor wear at corners, but really that is all. There are no seamsplits, bends, owners' markings, or other defects, and the album remains solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive – overall, an excellent collector's copy.

The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Though there is light surface noise throughout, in general the playback remains quite fine. However, those wanting a flawless or near-MINT copy are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.
