Jacket EX / LP NM

This beautiful LP, a license from Westminster, and issued here by His Master's Voice / EMI (CLP 1844, UK pressing, black label, mono, laminated flipback jacket) features Eugene List’s unsurpassed account of Carlos Chavez’s Piano Concerto, recorded with the composer conducting the Vienna State Opera Orchestra in the warm acoustics of the Mozartsaal, Vienna, in 1962 and sounding absolutely splendid here. The Westminster catalog number for this recording was XWN 19030.

Chavez’s is among the the most fascinating piano concertos of the 20th Century, with a highly individual soundworld, wholly accessible, and richly rewarding. Until Marc-Andre Hamelin records it for Hyperion, one can enjoy List’s brilliant account, which will be hard to beat in any case.

This album was engineered by Peter Curiel. There are informative liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Robert Angles, printed in English only. The striking cover design was executed by Harry Farmlett.

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT. There is minor bumping at corners, some light discoloration, and a former owner's initials to the rear side of the jacket. However, there are no seamsplits, bends, or other defects, and the whole remains solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive – overall, an excellent collector's copy.

The condition of the LP is near-MINT and playback is superb – overall, a truly fine collector's copy.
