$5.00 USD

Fontana (LP)

Jacket NM / LP EX / Dutch pressing

This fine LP from Fontana (894 046 ZKY, ‘Grandioso Serie’, Dutch pressing, blue/silver label, stereo) pairs two concerto performances with soloists Karl Suske and Annerose Schmidt.

The exact contents are as follows:

Karl Suske plays Haydn’s Violin Concerto No. 1 in C Major H. VIIa No. 1

> with conductor Otmar Suitner and the Berlin Staatskapelle

(rec. at the Jesus Christus-Kirche, Berlin, on 25 November 1964)

Any recording by Karl Suske is to be treasured. He plays with mellifuous tone and vibrant spirit.

Annerose Schmidt plays Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 21 in C Major K. 467

> with conductor Otmar Suitner and the Dreseden Staatskapelle

(rec. at the Lukaskirche, Dresden, on 19 August 1963)

This sublime rendition of Mozart’s famous concerto precedes Schmidt’s complete cycle with conductor Kurt Masur and the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra. It is a strong, thoroughly engaging performance from first bar to last.

there are insighful liner notes (uncredited) on the reverse side of the jacket, printed in German only. The striking cover photo is similarly uncredited.

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT. There is slight bumping at corners, but really that is all. There are no seamsplits, owners’ markings, or other defects, and the jacket remains solid, bright, glossy, and attractive – overall, an excellent collector's copy.

The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT. Though the surfaces are not perfectly silent (and thus I have rated it NM vs. MINT) this is a fine copy and playback is superb. If you must have perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as a NM collector's copy.
