Zukerman: Mozart Concerto K. 218, Adagio K. 261, etc. - CBS Masterworks M 37839
Jacket NM / LP NM
This handsome and now rather elusive LP from CBS Masterworks (M 37839, US pressing, blue/red band Masterworks label, stereo, original inner sleeve included) features Pinchas Zukerman's lovely account of Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 4 in D Major K. 218, recorded at O’Shaughnessy Auditorium, the College of St. Catherine, St. Paul, Minnesota, on 28 March 1982 with Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Zukerman leading from the violin.
Filling out the disc are equally captivating readings of Mozart's Rondo in C Major K. 373, Adagio in E Major K. 261, and Rondo in B-flat Major K. 269. Zukerman is perhaps taken for granted, his records passed by in favor of younger artists with more current 'star' appeal. This is a great pity, as Zukerman is greatly respected among his colleagues and a closer examination of his recorded output reveals playing of stature, grace, and insight.
This album was produced by Steven Epstein and engineered by Bud Graham and Hank Altman. The engaging cover photo of Zukerman was taken by Christian Steiner, while the album design was executed by Joel Zimmermann. There are fine liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Philip Ramey, provided in English, German, and French.
