Zehetmair/Masur: Sibelius Violin Concerto + Finlandia, etc. - Eterna 729 151 (DDD)
Jacket EX / LP NM / German pressing
This outstanding LP – a fine collector’s copy – from Eterna (729 151, German pressing, DMM · Direct Metal Mastering, black label, DDD stereo) features Thomas Zehetmair’s thrilling account of Sibelius’ Violin Concerto in D minor Op. 47, recorded with conductor Kurt Masur and the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestre in the warm acoustics of the Paul-Gerhardt-Kirche, Leipzig, in April 1985 (producer Bernd Runge / engineer: Claus Strüben).
Filling out the disc, and set down during the same sessions, is Masur and the Leipziger’s equally commanding accounts of Sibelius’ Finlandia Op. 26, The Swan of Tuonela Op. 22 No. 2, and the Karelia Suite Op. 11.
There are superb liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Hans-Christoph Worbs, printed in German, English, and French. The fine cover photo is uncredited.
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT. There is the slightest shelfwear and corner wear, but otherwise the album is in splendid shape – overall, an excellent collector's copy.
The condition of the LP is near-MINT and playback is superb – overall, a truly fine collector's copy.
