Vienna Konzerthaus Quartet (with Hubner & Weiss): Brahms Sextet Op. 36 - Heliodor 479 041
Jacket VG / LP EX / German pressing
This lovely LP from Heliodor (479 041 Hi-Fi, Westminster license, German DG pressing, plum label, mono) features the splendid Vienna Konzerthaus Quartet – Anton Kamper (1st violin), Karl M. Titze (2nd violin), Erich Weiss (viola), and Franz Kwarda (cello) – with fellow artists Wilhelm Hübner (2nd viola) Günther Weiss (2nd cello) in a dramatic, searching, and tonally beautiful account of Brahms’s String Sextet in G Major Op. 36, warmly recorded in the Mozartsaal, Vienna, on 1 January 1953. The stated date of publication for this LP is 8/63.
Incidentally, there are insightful liner notes (uncredited) on the reverse side of the jacket in German, English, and French. The fine cover art is similarly uncredited.
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD. There is minor bumping at corners, some wear and discoloration along the edges, and slight creasing, but that is all. There are no owners’ markings, bends, seamsplits, or other defects, and the album remains solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive – overall, this rates as a very good collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Although the surfaces are not absolutely silent, really this is a fine copy and the playback is quite superb. Those requiring CD silent surfaces are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.
