Tureck: Bach Goldberg Variations - La Vox de su Amo LALP 521/522 (2LP box set)
Box EX- / LPs EX (see CONDITION below)
This beautiful and exceedingly rare 2LP heavy box set from Spanish HMV · La Voz de su Amo (LALP 521/522, Spanish pressing, thick red/silver semi-circle label, mono) features the "high priestess" of Bach, pianist Rosalyn Tureck in a magisterial reading of the Goldberg Variations, recorded in June 1957.
To my knowledge, the Spanish division of HMV was the only branch to issue the 2LPs as box set. I do not believe this set has any French (FCX) or English (33CX) equivalent. Moreover, it was issued in a heavy, deluxe clamshell box. Also included is the 8-page booklet, which states that this was one of 500 copies pressed by Quintilla y Cardona, S.L., Barcelona, in November 1959.
The booklet contains Tureck's own liner notes, printed in Spanish only.
CONDITION – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the box is EXCELLENT-. The only flaw concerns the quite visible discoloration to the front panel. Otherwise, the heavy cardboard/canvas clamshell box remains perfectly sturdy and presentation-worthy.
The condition of the 8-page booklet is EXCELLENT. It betrays minor evidence of handling, but is free of tears, bends, owners markings, or other defects.
The condition of the 2 LPs is EXCELLENT throughout. Though surfaces are not absolutely silent, really these are fine copies and playback is superb. If you must have flawless or near-MINT, please do not buy this set. Overall, these are excellent collector's copies.
