Trio de Barcelona: Ravel & Shostakovich (No. 2) Piano Trios - Harmonia Mundi HMI. 87.001
Jacket EX / LP NM / Spanish pressing
This lovely LP from Harmonia Mundi (HMI. 87.001, Spanish pressing, black/silver label, stereo) features the splendid Trio de Barcelona in magnificent performances of Ravel’s Trio in A minor for Violin, Cello, and Piano and Shostakovich’s Piano Trio No. 2 in E minor Op. 67 for Violin, Cello, and Piano. Both works were warmly recorded at the R.N.E.M Studios, Madrid in 1986.
The Trio de Barcelona was comprised of:
Albert G. Attenelle, piano
Gerard Claret, violin
Lluís Claret, cello
This is extraordinary playing by any measure and these performances can withstand the most exalted comparisons. The sound is superb, too.
Incidentally, the striking cover photo was taken by Josep Ma Ardevol. In lieu of liner notes, the reverse side of the jacket carries a brief biography (uncredited) of the Trio de Barcelona, printed in Catalan and Spanish.
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT. There is a minor bend to the upper-right corner and slight shelfwear, but that is all. There are no, owners’ markings, bends, or other defects, and the album remains solid, bright, glossy, and very attractive – overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT and the playback is superb – overall, a very fine collector's copy.
