Toscanini/NYPO: Beethoven Sym No. 7 (rec. 1936) - RCA CDN-1028 (UK Decca pr.)

$10.00 USD

Jacket EX / Vinyl EX / UK Decca pressing

This handsom LP from RCA (CDN-1028, English Decca pressing, yellow/silver label, mono) features Arturo Toscanini and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra’s legendary recording of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 in A Major Op. 92, recorded in the rich acoustics of Carnegie Hall, New York, on 9 and 10 April 1936, still a landmark in the Beethoven discography.

The exact track list, taken from Discogs, is as follows:

Symphony No.7 In A Major Op. 92

  1. Poco sostenuto; Vivace

  1. Allegretto

III. Presto meno assai; Presto

  1. Allegro con brio

Incidentally, there are excellent liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by John Ashe, printed in English only. The striking cover portrait of Toscanini is uncredited.

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the laminated jacket is EXCELLENT. There is minor bumping at corners, as well as mild shelfwear, but that is all. There are no seamsplits, bends, owners' markings, or other defects, and the album remains solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive – overall, an excellent collector's copy.

The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Although the surfaces are not absolutely silent, really this is a fine copy and playback is superb, close to NM. Those requiring a flawless or near-MINT copy are advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this is an excellent collector's copy.
