Toscanini: Mozart Symphonies 40 & No. 41 "Jupiter" - Japanese RCA RCV-1533
Jacket NM / LP NM
This handsome and rare LP from RCA Japan (RVC-1533, Japanese pressing, red / silver label – ED1, mono) features conductor Arturo Toscanini and the NBC Symphony Orchestra in a brilliant all-Mozart album. Though Toscanini’s Mozart may not be everyone’s taste, there’s no denying that these performances are imbued with unfailing vitality.
The exact discographic details are as follows:
Mozart: Symphony No. 40 in G minor K. 550
(rec. at NBC Studio 8-H, New York City, on 12 March 1950
Mozart: Symphony No. 41 in C Major K. 551 “Jupiter”
(rec. at Carnegie Hall, New York City, on 22 June 1945)
Those not familiar with Japanese pressing would do well to investigate them. They often offer original artwork or, as is the case here, a jacket styled much like the original US RCA release. The quality of the vinyl pressing itself is worthy of audiophile standards. Though this may not be the original RCA LP, it undisputably delivers much smoother, and truer, sound.
The liner notes on the reverse are in Japanese only, but all titles and track listings, on the LP as well, are in English.
