Tito Aprea: Chopin Polonaises Vol. 1 - Spanish RCA VIC-1048
Jacket VG / LP EX
This rare and little-known LP from Spanish RCA (VIC-1048, Spanish pressing, plum/silver label, mono) features pianist Tito Aprea in one of his very few recordings as solo artist, heard here in 7 Chopin Polonaises, recorded circa the early- to mid-1950s. Better known as an accompanist, most notably to his compatriot, violinist Gioconda de Vito, Aprea was a fine pianist (and pedagogue) in his own right – among his more famous students is Pietro Spada.
The 7 Chopin Polonaises included in Aprea's recital are:
Polonaise in B-flat Major Op. 71 No. 2
Polonaise in C-sharp minor Op. 26 No. 1
Polonaise in A Major Op. 40 No. 1 "Military"
Polonaise in C minor Op. 40 No. 2
Polonaise in A-flat Major
Polonaise in E-flat minor Op. 26 No. 2
Polonaise in A-flat Major Op. 53 "Heroic"
There are insightful liner notes (uncredited) on the reverse side of the jacket, printed in Spanish only. The striking cover design is similarly uncredited.
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD. There is minor corner wear, faint ringwear, and aging. However, there are no owners’ markings, bends, seamsplits, or other defects, and the jacket remains solid, bright, glossy, and attractive – overall, a very good collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Although surfaces are not perfectly silent, this is a fine copy and the playback remains enjoyable. However, if you must have a flawless or NM copy, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, rates as an excellent collector's copy.
