Szymon Goldberg/Netherlands CO: Vivaldi 4 Seasons (r. 1973) - Philips 6566 013
Jacket VG+ / LP NM / Dutch pressing
This excellent LP from Philips (6566 013, Dutch pressing, blue/silver label, stereo) features the wonderful violinist/conductor Szymon Goldberg (one-time concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic under Furtwangler) in a magical rendition of Vivaldi’s 'The Four Seasons' Op. 8 Nos. 1-4, from 'The Trial of Harmony and Invention', as well as the Violin Concerto No. 5 in A minor PV 10, from ‘La Cetra’ Op. 9, all recorded in the Grote Zaal of the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam on 22 October 1973 with the ensemble Goldberg founded, the fine Netherlands Chamber Orchestra. The sound throughout is beautiful, as is the music-making – superlative!
There are brief liner notes (uncredited) on the reverse side of the jacket, printed in German only. The striking cover art is similarly uncredited.
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD+. There is slight bumping/wear at corners, more so to the lower-left corner, and some general edgewear. However, there are no seamsplits, bends, owners’ markings, or other defects and the album remains solid, bright, glossy, and attractive – overall, a very good collector’s copy.
The condition of the LP is near-MINT and the playback is superb – overall, this rates as a fine collector's copy.
