Szell: Mussorgsky Pictures at an Exhibition + Stravinsky Firebird Suite - Columbia 33CX 1916
Jacket VG / LP NM / UK pressing
This handsome LP from Columbia / EMI (33CX 1916, English pressing, red label, mono) features George Szell and the Cleveland Orchestra's high-octane accounts of Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition (orch. Ravel), recorded 30 October 1963, and Stravinsky's L'oiseau de feu (The Firebird – Suite 1919), taped 22/23 January and 3 March 1961. Szell's Pictures can be spoken of in the same breath as those by Reiner, Dorati, and Karajan while his Firebird Suite is a sleek and brilliant beauty. Curiously, there is very little Stravinsky in Szell's large discography, thus adding to the interest of this outstanding disc.
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD. There is edgewear, discoloration (particularly along the edges), and slight bumping at corners. However, there are no seamsplits, bends, or owners' markings and the album remains perfectly solid and presentation worthy – still very much a good collector's copy.
The condition of the LP is similarly near-MINT throughout and plays without defect of any kind (no spindle trails or marks) – in short, a beautiful collector's copy.
