Steinberg: Beethoven Late Sonatas Nos. 27-32 - Elysium C4 0010/12 (3-LP box)
Box NM / LPs NM / German pressing
This handsome and little-known 3-LP box – a superb collector’s copy – from Elysium (C4 0010/12, German pressing, DMM · Direct Metal Mastering, plum/silver label, stereo) features pianist Michael Steinberg’s exalted traversal of Beethoven’s late sonatas (Nos. 27-32), warmly recorded in the rich acoustics of the Beethovensaal, Hannover, in 1982.
Thus, included are the following Piano Sonatas of Ludwig van Beethoven:
Piano Sonata No. 27 in E minor Op. 90
Piano Sonata No. 28 in A Major Op. 101
Piano Sonata No. 29 in B-flat Major Op. 106 “Hammerklavier”
Piano Sonata No. 30 in E Major Op. 109
Piano Sonata No. 31 in A-flat Major Op. 110
Piano Sonata No. 32 in C minor Op. 111
In fact, Steinberg recorded all 32 of Beethoven’s Piano Sonatas for Elysium and his cycle is richly deserving of re-issue and renewed appreciation – wonderful playing.
Included is a 4-page booklet with extensive, and very authoritative, liner notes by Steinberg himself, provided in English and German.
CONDITION – PLEASE READ VERY CAREFULLY:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of box is near-MINT. There is very minor wear at one corner, but that is all; otherwise, the box appears as new – overall, an outstanding collector’s copy.
The condition of the booklet is VERY GOOD. It shows handling and discoloration, but there are no markings or tears.
The condition of the 3 LPs is near-MINT throughout and playback is superb – overall, truly fine collector's copies.
