This handsome LP – a superb collector’s copy – from Supraphon (11 0936-1, Czech pressing, blue/silver label, DDD stereo) entitled “Compositions by Czech Violin Virtuosi” features an ingeneous compilation of works written by some of the great Czech violinists, all brought off in charistmatic fashion by violinist Vaclav Snítl and pianist Josef Hála.

These are all charming works, full of elegance, quicksilver brilliance, and songfulness and certainly deserve to be better known. They could receive no finer advocacy than here – truly wonderful performances.
This remarkable album was recorded in the fine acoustics of the Dvorak Hall, The House of Artists, Prague, during 21-23 November 1988. The session were produced by Vladimir Koronthaly and engineered by Erich Kunze.
The striking cover design was executed by Jiri Stanek, while the reverse side of the jacket carries insightful liner notes by Vaclav Snitl himself – texts provided in Czech, German, French, and English.
