Slobodyanik: Chopin Etudes Opp. 10 & 25, etc. - Eurodisc 85 956 XDK (2LP set)
Jacket VG / LPs EX
This superb 2-LP gatefold set from Eurodisc (85 956 XDK, German pressing, gray label, stereo) features Alexander Slobodyanik’s stunning traversal of Chopin’s 24 Etudes Op. 10 and Op. 25, as well as the Fantasy in F minor Op. 49 and the Scherzo No. 3 in C-sharp minor Op. 39, all vividly recorded in the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory in 1971.
Sobodyanik was a virtuoso and poet of the piano of the first order, whose fascinating and distinguished discography is richly deserving of systematic re-issue and renewed appreciation on disc. His Chopin Etudes can be spoken of in the same breath as those by Ashkenazy, Pollini, et al. The sound is first rate – a tremendous album for the pianophile.
These recordings were produced / engineered by E. Shakhnazarian. There are authoritative liner notes on the interior panels of the gatefold jacket by Alfred Beaujean, printed in French only. The memorable cover art was executed by Dieter Ziegenfeuter.
Sticker residue to front panel, as well as corner wear and light creasing; no splits, else fine.
