Jacket: G / Vinyl: G / German pressing
This handsome and rare LP from German Decca (BLK 16068, German Teldec · Telefunken-Decca pressing, purple gold label – ED1, mono only) features Carl Schuricht and l' Orchestra de la Société des Concerts du Conservatoire in a truly stirring all-Wagner program, recorded at the Maison de la Mutualité, Paris on 4/5 and 8-11 June 1954 (producer: Victor Olof).
This LP is sold “as is” – I will not accept a return on it. Please see “CONDITION” below – the LP is exactly as I have described it.
The works of Wagner included in this album are as follows:
Tristan und Isolde
Prelude & Liebestod
Dawn and Siegfried's Rhine Journey
Siegfried's Funeral March
These remarkable performances are imbued with a tremendous sense of occasion, the Paris Conservatoire Orchestra responding with playing of thrilling sweep and power – one of the great Wagner albums from the early days of LP, and sounding particularly sumptuous here.
In lieu of liner notes, the reverse side of the jacket carries a listing of other Decca titles in this series. The striking cover design is uncredited.
