Scheja & Pontinen: Rachmaminov works for 2 pianos - LCM L-103 (DDD)
Jacket VG- / LP EX- / Swedish pressing
This excellent and little-known LP from LCM (L-103, Swedish pressing, gray label, DDD stereo) features pianists Staffan Scheja and Roland Pontinen in three of Rachmaninoff’s works for two pianos, superbly recorded in at Swedish Radio, Stockholm, in June 1987.
Included are the following works of Rachmaninov for 2 pianos:
Symphonic Dances Op. 45
Suite No. 2 Op. 17
La Nuit…L’Amour, from the Suite No. 1 Op. 5
Note: Staffan Scheja takes the primo piano parts in the Symphonic Dances Op. 45 and in the L Nuit…L’Amour from the Suite No. 1 Op. 5, Roland Pontinen the primo part in the Suite No. 2 Op. 17. Both pianists are completely inside Rachmaninoff’s sound world and imbue these scores with a power and elegiac beauty that lingers in the mind long after the music has stopped. To my knowledge, this was a Sweden-only release and not distributed elsewhere.
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD-. There is bumping/wear at corners, edgewear, minor creasing, and two dealer’s stickers to the rear panel. However, there are no seampslits, bends, or other defects and the jacket remains solid and presentation worthy – overall, a very good collector’s copy.
The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT-. Though the surfaces are not absolutely silent, really this is a fine copy and the playback is enjoyable. Those requiring a flawless or near-MINT copy are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this is an excellent collector's copy.
