Rubinstein: Liszt Piano Concerto No. 1 / Grieg Piano Concerto - LVSM FALP 162 (ED1)
$4.00 USD
Jacket VG / LP VG / French pressing
This beautiful LP from La Voix de Son Maitre (FALP 162, French pressing, red/silver label, mono – no stereo edition exists) features Artur Rubinstein in a pair of marvelous concerto performances, accompanied in both recordings by conductor Antal Dorati. Included are:
Liszt: Piano Concerto No. 1 in E-flat Major – rec. in 1947 with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra
Grieg: Piano Concerto in A minor Op. 16 – rec. on 22 August 1949 at Republic Studios, Hollywood, California, with the RCA Victor Symphony Orchestra
These are fleet, scintilatting performances yet not without poetry or lyricism. Rubinstein is on charismatic form – indeed, he is quite the showman in the Liszt, but this is a work that almost cries out for it – and Dorati provides superbly graded accompaniment. This is the first French pressing, and arguably the most desirable edition of these recordings.
CONDITION:
The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD. There is a bend/crease to the lower-left corner, as well as creasing in general. However, there are no seamsplits or other defects and the whole remains solid, bright, and very attractive – a good collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is VERY GOOD. There are faint spindle trails and occasional light surface noise, but in general the disc plays superbly – overall, a good collector's copy.
