Ricci: Bach Violin Concertos BWV 1041, 1042, 1052 (rec. 1969) - Unicorn UNS 202
Jacket VG / LP EX / UK pressing
This handsome LP from Unicorn (UNS 202, English pressing, red/silver label, stereo) features an original Unicorn recording made at Barking Assembly Hall, London on 23 September 1969 with Ruggiero Ricci playing Bach's Violin Concertos No. 1 in A minor BWV 1041, No. 2 in E Major BWV 1042, and in D minor BWV 1052, the great violinist leading The City of London Ensemble from the bow. This is exalted violin playing by any measure and can be spoken of in the same breath as that by Grumiaux, Oistrakh, et al.
There are superb liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Alan Doggett, as well as photographs of Ricci from the actual recording session taken by Paul Casteldini. The striking cover design was executed by John Baber.
CONDITION – PLEASE READ VERY CAREFULLY:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the front laminated jacket is VERY GOOD. There is light edgewear and some creasing, but that is all. There are no seamsplits, bends, owners’ markings, or other defects, and the album remains solid, bright, glossy and very striking in appearance – a very good collector’s copy.
The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Although the surfaces are not absolutely silent, this is a fine copy and the playback is quite superb. Those requiring flawless or NM surfaces are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.
