RIAS Winds: Mozart Serenade K. 361 "Gran Partita" - Telefunken LE 6504 (ED1)
Jacket VG / LP EX / German pressing
This lovely and rare gatefold LP from Telefunken (LE 6504, German pressing, purple/silver label, mono) features the RIAS Bläser-Kammermusic-Vereinigung, Berlin (Winds of the RIAS Chamber Orchestra Association) in a spirited and supremely eloquent rendition of Mozart’s Serenade No. 10 in B-flat Major for 13 Wind Instruments K. 361 “Gran Partita”, recorded in the rich acoustics of the Lichterfelder Festsäle, Berlin, on 20 February 1953.
This album was made at a time when recordings of what is arguably Mozart’s greatest wind serenade were relatively few. To my knowledge, this remarkable performance has never been released on CD. It is a remarkably fine rendition and richly deserves re-issue.
In lieu of liner notes the left interior panel of the gatefold jacket contains a listing of other titles from the Telefunken catalog. The striking cover art is uncredited.
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the gatefold jacket is VERY GOOD+. There is light edgewear, more so at corners, but that is all. There are no seamsplits, bends, owners' markings, or other defects the album remains solid, bright, and highly attractive – overall, a very good collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Though there is occasional light surface noise, in general the playback remains quite fine. However, those wanting a flawless or near-MINT copy are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.
