l'Oiseau-Lyre (LP)

Jacket VG / LP VG (French pressing - green/silver label - stereo)

This lovely heavy gatefold LP from L'Oiseau-Lyre (SOL 285, French pressing, green/silver label, stereo) features The Pro Arte Piano Quartet in richly eloquent accounts of Mozart’s Piano Quartets No. 1 in G minor K. 478 and No. 2 in E-flat Major K. 493, first issued in 1966.

The Pro Arte Piano Quartet was comprised of violinist Kenneth Sillito, violist Cecil Aronowitz, cellist Terence Weil, and pianist Lamar Crowson. Their playing is full of felicitous insights and boasts a warmth and vitality, with an underlying depth of feeling, that is wholly captivating.

Incidentally, the liner notes (in French only) were written by Charles Cudworth.

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the gatefold jacket is VERY GOOD. There is minor bumping at corners, edgewear, and discoloration. However, there are no bends, seamsplits, or owners' markings, and the album remains solid, bright, and attractive in appearance – overall, a very good collector's copy.

The condition of the LP itself is VERY GOOD. The surfaces are not always CD silent, but in general the playback is really superb with Crowson’s sparkling playing clear as a bell. Those desiring a flawless or near-MINT copy are advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this is a very good collector's copy.
