Menuhin/Bath FO: Mozart Violin Concertos K. 218 & K. 271a - FALP 780 (ds)
Jacket NM / LP NM / French pressing
This beautiful LP – a superb collector's copy – from La Voix de son Maitre (FALP 780, French pressing, red/white large dog semi-circle label, mono, dowel spine) features Yehudi Menuhin’s sublime accounts of Mozart’s Violin Concertos No. 4 in D Major K. 218 and No. 6 in D Major K. 271, both made at EMI Studio No. 1, Abbey Road, London in July 1962, with Menuhin leading the estimable Bath Festival Chamber Orchestra from the violin – lovely from first bar to last.
This is exalted playing by any measure and all those who treasure the art of the violin will find much to admire here – wonderful performances.
The reverse side of the jacket carries superb liner notes by Georges Beck, printed in French only. Though the lovely cover art is uncredited, the design was executed by Atelier Joubert.
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the heavy 'baguette'-style jacket is near-MINT. There minuscule wear at corners, but otherwise the album appears almost as new. There are no seamsplits, bends, or owners' markings and the album remains perfectly solid, bright, and very striking in appearance – overall, an excellent collector's copy.
The condition of the dowel spine is EXCELLENT. There are no seamsplits and the lettering on the dowel remains bright and legible.
The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT. Although surfaces are not absolutely silent (and thus I have rated it NM vs. MINT) this is a fine copy and playback is superb. If you must have perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as a NM collector's copy.
