Magaloff: Schumann Fantasy in C Op. 17 + Six Paganini Etudes Op. 3 - Fone 851-01
Jacket EX / LP NM / Italian pressing
This handsome LP from Foné (851-01, Italian pressing, black label, stereo, booklet included) features the great pianist Nikita Magaloff in a mesmerizing all-Schumann recital, recorded “live” in concert at the Teatro Goldini, Istituto Musicale Pietro Mascagni, Livorno, Italy on 30 March 1984.
Magaloff’s program on this memorable occasion was as follows, both works by Robert Schumann:
Fantasy in C Major Op. 17
Six Studies after Paganini Op. 3
This is playing in the grand manner and all those who treasure the art of the piano will find much to savor here. There is a true sense of occasion and the recorded sound is superb.
Inclluded is a full-size, 4-page booklet with extensive notes on the Schumann by Claudio Proietti, printed in Italian only. There are also brief notes on Paganini and an appreciation of Magaloff’s artistry by Leonardo Pinzauti – provided in Italian, French, and English.
This album was produced by Giulio Cesare Ricci and engineered by Maurizio Donati. The striking jacket design was executed by Sergio Tani.
There are Radio France stickers on the jacket back, the booklet, and a small one to label of Side 2 of the LP.
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT. There is minor corner wear and shelfwear, but really that is all. There are no seamsplits, owners' markings or other defects, and the whole remains solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive – an excellent collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT. Though the surfaces are not perfectly silent (and thus I have rated it NM vs. MINT) this is a fine copy and playback is superb. If you must have perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as a NM collector's copy.
