Los Angeles Quartet: Hindemith String Qts 3 & 4 - GSC Recordings GSC 10 (sealed)
Jacket EX / LP MINT / US pressing
This handsome and rare LP – a still-sealed copy – from GSC Recordings (GSC 10, US pressing, label iteration unknown, stereo) features The Los Angeles String Quartet’s unsurpassed readings of Paul Hindemith’s String Quartets No. 3 Op. 22 (1921) and No. 4 Op. 32 (1923), recorded in 1978, and to this collector’s knowledge, never on compact disc.
The Los Angeles Quartet was made up of Paul Shure (1st violin – formerly 2nd violin with the legendary Hollywood Quartet), Bonnie Douglas (2nd violin), Janet Lakatos (viola), and Armand Krapoff (cello).
This remarkable album was produced by Herschel Burke Gilbert, Julian Spear, and Don Christlieb, and engineered by Art Becker.
This is exalted music-making by any measure and all those who cherish the art of the string quartet will find much to savor here.
The striking album design was executed by James Shade and there are informative liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Walter Hilse, printed in English only.
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT. There is minor bumping at corners, a former price sticker to the front panel, and slight tearing to the cellophane. However, there are no seamsplits, bends, owners’ markings, or other faults, and the whole remains solid, bright, glossy, and attractive – overall, an excellent collector's copy.
The condition of the LP is MINT. This is a still-sealed, unplayed copy – the ideal collector's copy.
