This handsome LP from Deutsche Grammophon (419 189-1, German pressing, white circle label, DDD stereo) features conductor James Levine and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in wonderful performances of 2 Mozart’s Symphonies, all warmly recorded in the Grossersaal of the Musikverein, Vienna, in June 1984 and June 1985*.
The head of production for this album was Dr. Steven Paul, the recording supervisors Cord Garben (K. 201) and Werner Mayer (K. 338), and the balance engineer Klaus Scheibe. There are superlative liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket in English and French (by Stanley Sadie), as well as in German and Italian (by Volker Scherliess). The memorable cover photo of Levine was taken by Christian Steiner, New York.
