Leinsdorf: Strauss Die Frau Ohne Schatten Interludes, etc. - Capitol P 8548
$15.00 USD
Jacket NM / LP NM
This beautiful LP from Capitol (P 8548, US pressing, rainbow label, mono) entitled "The Sound of Richard Strauss" features conductor Erich Leinsdorf and the Philharmonia Orchestra in brilliant, sumptuous performances – all recorded in demonstration quality sound – of three remarkable scores, one of which was masterfully arranged by Leinsdorf himself.
The exact contents are as follows:
Salome's Dance
Till Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks
Interludes from Die Frau Ohne Schatten (arr. Leinsdorf)
Some of Leinsdorf Capitol outings are marred by boxy sound – e.g., depending on the venue, those recorded in Hollywood – but these remarkable performances were set down in the fabled acoustics of London's Kingsway Hall in September 1960.
There are insightful liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Ralph O'Connor, printed in English only. The striking cover design is uncredited, alas.
