Lars Roos: Schubert Piano Sonata No. 18 D. 894, etc. - Philips 420 072-1
Jacket EX / Vinyl NM / Dutch pressing
This beautiful and rare LP from Philips (420 072-1, Dutch pressing, silver/red label, stereo) features the splendid Swedish pianist Lars Roos in a searching account of Schubert’s Piano Sonata No. 18 in G Major D. 894 (Op. 78), as well as 3 (Nos. I-3) of the Moments Musicaux D. 780 (Op. 94) all recorded in the fine acoustics of Studio 2, Swedish Radio, Stockholm, during 18-19 March and 5 May 1986.
This album was produced and Lars Roos and engineered by Maurice Mogard. The lovely cover art reproduces a detail from Jacob The Elder’s “Vienna in the 19th Century: View over the city from the garden of Schwarzenberg Palace”. There are informative liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Claes M. Cnattingius, provided in both Swedish and English.
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT. There is a slight bumping at corners, as well as mild shelfwear, but that is all. There are no seamsplits, bends, or owners' markings and the album remains solid, bright, and highly attractive – overall, an excellent collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT. Though the surfaces are not perfectly silent (and thus I have rated it NM vs. MINT) this is a fine copy and playback is superb. If you must have perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as a NM collector's copy.
