This beautiful LP from Mercury (MG 50001, US pressing, red/silver label, mono – no stereo edition exists) features Rafael Kubelik and the mighty Chicago Symphony Orchestra in magnificent performances of Bartok’s Music for Strings, Percussion & Celesta and Bloch’s Concerto Grosso No. 1 for String Orchestra with Piano Obbligato.

Both works were recorded at Orchestra Hall, Chicago on 23/24 April 1951 “using a single Telefunken microphone hung 25 feet above the conductor’s podium” (from the liner notes)
