Kirkpatrick: Bach Italian Concerto + Partita BWV 831 - Archiv ARC 73155 (Red Stereo)
Jacket EX / LP NM / German pressing
This handsome LP – in a “Red Stereo” jacket – from Archive · Deutsche Grammophon (ARC 73155, German pressing, silver label – ED1 [stereo logo at 12 o’clock], data card included) features the legendary Ralph Kirkpatrick in a magical Bach harpsichord recital pairing the Italian Concerto in F Major BWV 971 and the Overture in the French Style in B minor BWV 831, both recorded at Polydor-Studio, Berlin, from 17-19 September 1959.
Even if not a first choice – and there is no reason these remarkable performaces couldn’t be – Kirkpatrick’s penetrating musicianship and unfailing technical command are deeply rewarding. Needless to say, the sound is absolutely first class.
This album was produced by Hans Ritter and engineered by Harold Baudis. The full-size insert data card, as well as the rear panel of the jacket, contain extensive liner notes by Ralph Kirkpatrich himself, provided in English only. The rear of the jacket carries a publication date of 1+66.
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT. There is minor bumping at corners, as well as mild discoloration/ringwear, but really that is all. There are no seamsplits, bends, owners’ markings, or other defects, and the jacket remains solid, bright, and highly attractive – overall, an excellent collector’s copy.
The condition of the LP is near-MINT. Both the surfaces and and playback are truly superb – overall, an extremely fine collector's copy.
