Iona Brown/ASMF: Vivaldi 4 Seasons (rec. 1979) - Philips 9500 717
Jacket EX / LP NM / Dutch pressing
This lovely LP from Philips (9500 717, Dutch pressing, red/white label, stereo, full-page liner notes insert included) features Iona Brown's exhilirating and songful rendition of Vivaldi's The Four Seasons Op. 8 Nos. 1-4, from 'The Trial of Harmony and Invention', recorded on 6 June 1979 with Brown leading the redoubtable Academy of St. Martins-in-the-Fields from the violin. One of the great musicians that England produced during the last century, Brown's discography deserves an everlasting shelflife in the catalog. Moreover, the sound is superb.
Incidentally, the lovely cover art reproduces Nicolas Lancret's "L'hiver", held at the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Angers. And the super liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket, written by Lothar Hoffmann-Erbrecht, are provided in English, German, and French.
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT-. There is minor bumping/wear at corners, and some slight creasing, but that is all. There are no seamsplits, bends, or owners' markings and the album remains solid, bright, and glossy – overall, an excellent collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT and the playback is superb – overall, a very fine collector's copy.
