Grumiaux: Für meine Fruende (For my Friends) - Violin Encores: Philips 6599 372
Jacket EX / LP NM
This lovely LP from Philips (6599 372, Dutch pressing, blue/silver label, stereo) entitled “Für meine Fruende” (“For my Friends”) features the great Belgian violinist Arthur Grumiaux in a captivating encores album, recorded with his longtime recital partner, pianist Istvan Hajdu.
While Heifetz, Milstein, Szeryng, Stern, et al. made a number of encore albums, Grumiaux’s discography boasts relatively few, a strange omission, but somewhat remedied here.
Grumiaux plays with unfailing imagination and grace and one sense a powerful re-creative personality behind the bow, each bon-bon brought off with tremendous elan and charm.
