Goossens: Mussorgsky Pictures at an Exhibition / Respighi Fountains of Rome - Regal SREG 1094
Jacket EX / LP NM / UK pressing
This beautiful LP from Regal (SREG 1094, English EMI pressing, blue/silver label, stereo, laminated flipback jacket) features conductor Eugene Goossens in a pair of spectacular orchestral showpieces, both brought of with tremendous panache and poetry, the honors evenly divided between the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Philharmonia Orchestra.
The exact details are as follows, both performances conducted by Eugene Goossens:
Mussorgsky (orch. Ravel): Pictures at an Exhibition
> with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra
(rec. at EMI Studio No. 1, Abbey Road, London, on 26 September 1957)
Respighi: The Fountains of Rome
(rec. at Kingsway Hall, London, in 1959)
There are authoritative and eloquent liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by W.A. Chislett (Mussorgsky-Ravel) and Malcolm Rayment (Respighi), printed in English only. The striking cover art was executed by “TGN”.
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT. There is minor edgewear, but really that is all. There are no seamsplits, bends, owners' markings, or other defects, and the whole remains solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive – overall, an excellent collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT. Though the surfaces are not perfectly silent (and thus I have rated it NM vs. MINT) this is a fine copy and playback is superb. If you must have perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as a NM collector's copy.
