Glabowna: Chopin Piano Sonata No. 3, Barcarolle, etc. - Caprice CAP 1115
Jacket EX / LP NM / Swedish pressing
This superb gatefold LP from Caprice (CAP 1115, Swedish pressing, white label, stereo) features the splendid pianist Elzbieta Glabowna in an exalted all-Chopin recital, warmly recorded at Radiohuset, Studio 3, Stockholm, during 22-24 October 1975.
The exact contents are as follows:
Polonaise in F-sharp minor Op. 44
Barcarolle in F-sharp Major Op. 60
Mazurka in C-sharp minor Op. 50 No. 3
Piano Sonata No. 3 in B minor Op. 58
A pupil of Jan Ekier, Glabowna plays with impressive technique and poetic sensibility. One can only regret she did not record more; as it is, all her albums are worth seeking out.
This album was produced by Gunilla Sandberg-Saulesco and engineered by Hans Evers. The striking cover art was executed by Suzanne Öhman. There are extensive notes on the music by Rolf Haglund as well as a biography of Glabowna by Per-Anders Hellquist – all texts provided in Swedish, German, and English. The interior panels of the gatefold jacket also carry several composer-related illustrations.
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT. The only flaws barring a NM grading concern a tiny scuff to the front panel and minor bumping at corners. Otherwise, the album appears almost as new. There are no seamsplits, bends, owners’ markings, or other defects, and the album remains solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive – an excellent collector’s copy.
The condition of the LP is near-MINT and playback is superb – overall, a truly fine collector's copy.
