Georgescu: Enescu Symphony No. 1 in E-flat Major Op. 13 - Artia ALP 118
Jacket NM / LP EX / Czech pressing
This superb gatefold LP – a fine collector’s copy – from Artia (ALP 118, Czech pressing, blue/silver label, mono) features conductor George Georgescu and the Romanian State Symphony Orchestra’s magnificent account of Georges Enesco’s Symphony No. 1 in E-flat Major Op. 13, originally made by Electrecord in Bucharest, Romania, in the late 1950s.
Wrote Evan Dickeson for MusicWeb-International:
“Made a few years after the composer’s death this recording (coupling: the rhapsodies) shows all the qualities of these great and undervalued musicians. The sweep and power brought to it, but also the tenderness in the service of Enescu, create an overwhelming impression. For its age the recording is immediate and full bodied.”
On the interior panel of the gatefold jacket are printed eloquent liner notes by Walter Lowe, printed in English only.
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the gatefold jacket is near-MINT. There is minor bumping/wear at corners, but that is all. There are no seamsplits, owners' markings, bends, or other defects and the album remains solid, bright, and attractive – overall, a very fine collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Although the surfaces are not absolutely silent, really this is a fine copy and the playback is enjoyable. Those requiring a flawless or near-MINT copy are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this is an excellent collector's copy.
