Frugoni: Musique Espagnole pour le Piano (Albeniz, et al.) - Pathé · Vox PL 9420
Jacket EX / LP NM / French pressing
This beautiful and quite rare LP from Pathé · Vox (PL 9420, French Pathé pressing, cream/trident label, mono – no stereo edition exists) entitled "Musique Espagnole pour le Piano" features the under-rated Orazio Frugoni in a dazzling and poetic recital, first published on LP in 1954.
Frugoni's program is as follows:
Isaac Albeniz (1860-1909)
Prelude "Asturias", No. 1 from Cantos de España Op. 232
Bajo la palmera, No. 3 from Cantos de España Op. 232
Córdoba, No. 4 from Cantos de España Op. 232
Seguidillas, No. 5 from Cantos de España Op. 232
Malagueña, No. 3 from 6 Hojas de album "España"
Tango in D Major
Enrique Granados (1876-1916)
Allegro de concierto
Andaluza, from Cantos de España Op. 5
Joaquin Turina (1882-1949)
Exaltacion, No. 1 from the Danzas fantásticas Op. 200
Manuel de Falla (1876-1946)
Andaluza, No. 4 from 4 Piezas Españolas
Danza ritual del fuego ("Ritual Fire Dance"), from El amor brujo
Incidentally, there are liner excellent liner notes (uncredited) on the reverse side of the album, printed in French only. I cannot make out the artist's name shown near the bottom-right corner of the fine artwork on the jacket front.
CONDITION – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT. There is slight edgewear, mild discoloration, and a bit of writing (underlining) to the rear panel, but that is all. There are no seamsplits, bends, owners' markings, or other defects, and the album remains solid, bright, and very striking in appearance – overall, this rates as an excellent collector’s copy.
The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT. Though the surfaces are not perfectly silent (and thus I have rated it NM vs. MINT) this is a fine copy and playback is superb. If you must have perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as a NM collector's copy.
