Fredman/London Philharmonic: Bax Symphony No. 2 (rec. 1971) - Lyrita SRCS. 54
Jacket EX / LP NM
This handsome LP from Lyrita (SRCS. 54, UK pressing, blue/silver label, stereo) features conductor Myer Fredman and the London Philharmonic Orchestra’s powerful account of Arnold Bax’s Symphony No. 2, sumptuously recorded in demonstration quality sound in 1971 – in many ways, a performance still unsurpassed on record.
Wrote the wonderful writer and critic David Hurwitz for ClassicsToday:
“Meyer Fredman also recorded Bax's Second Symphony for Lyrita, a performance yet to be reissued on CD. That performance always has impressed me as one of the glories of the Bax discography, still unequalled either in terms of sonic opulence or interpretive naturalness (but it may be that this was just the version that I imprinted on decades ago).”
The reverse side of the jacket carries informative liner notes by Lewis Foreman, printed in English only. The striking cover design was executed by Keith Hensby.
