Fourestier: Lalo Le roi d'Ys Ov & Scherzo + Saint-Saëns Suite Argelina Op. 60 - Pathe DMX 104
This beautiful LP from Pathé (DMX 104, Spanish pressing, red/silver label – ED1, mono) features conductor Louis Fourestier and l’ Orchestre Nacional de la Radiodiffusion Française in a brilliant program pairing orchestral works by Edouard Lalo and Camille Saint-Saëns, all vividly recorded in the warm acoustics of the Maison de la Mutualité, Paris, in May 1952.
The exact program is as follows:
Le Roi d’Ys Overture
Suite Algérienne Op. 60
Fourestier and ONRTF players bring both poetry and panache to these remarkable scores, mining them for all the atmosphere, drama, and color they possess – superb performances.
Incidentally, the striking cover art was executed by Alain Carrier. The reverse side of the jacket carries insightful liner notes by Serge Berthoumieux, provided in Spanish only.
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD. There is corner wear and creasing, as well as a small bit of writing and discoloraiton to the rear panel. However, there are no seamsplits, bends, or other defects and the album remains solid, bright, and highly attractive – overall, a very good collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Although the surfaces are not perfectly silent, really this is a fine copy and playback is superb, close to NM. If you must have a flawless or NM copy, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, rates as an excellent collector's copy.
