Fleisher/Juilliard Qt: Brahms Piano Quintet Op. 34 - Epic/Columbia 33CX 1901
Jacket VG / LP EX / UK pressing
This superb LP from Epic / Columbia (33CX 1901, English pressing, red semi-circle label, mono, flipback jacket, original inner sleeve included) features Leon Fleisher and the Juilliard String Quartet's outstanding account of Brahms's Piano Quintet in F minor Op. 34, recorded at Columbia 30th Street Studio, New York City, on 11 March 1963.
At this time the Juilliard was comprised of violinists Robert Mann and Isidore Cohen, violist Raphael Hillyer, and cellist Claus Adam. Over 40 years on, this remains a classic reading.
There are eloquent and erudite liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Konrad Wolff, printed in English only. The striking cover design is uncredited.
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD. There is edgewear, bumping at corners, and discoloration. However, the album is without seamsplits, bends or owners' markings and remains presentation worthy, the whole solid, bright and glossy – a good collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Although the surfaces are not absolutely silent, really this is a fine copy and playback is superb, close to NM. Those requiring a flawless or near-MINT copy are advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this is an excellent collector's copy.
