This handsome and rare LP from Spanish Odeon (MOAL 111, Spanish pressing, red/silver label – ED1, mono) features conductor Anatole Fistoulari and the Philharmonia Orchestra in brilliant performances of four overtures, all brought off with stunning poetry and panache.

Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov: May Night, Overture
Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari: Il segreto di Susanna, Overture
These rousing performances were sumptuously recorded at EMI Studio No. 1, Abbey Road, London, in August 1951.
There are insightful liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Hugh Davidson, printed in Spanish only. The striking cover design is uncredited.
