Fine Arts Qt/NY Woodwind Qnt: Art of the Fugue (Nos. 12-15): Concert-Disc CS-250
Jacket NM / LP EX / US pressing
This fascinating LP from Concert-Disc (CS-250, “Connoisseur Series”, US pressing, gold label, stereo) features The Fine Arts Quartet and the New York Woodwind Quintet in Part II of Bach’s “Art of the Fugue” (Contrapuncti 12 through 15), recorded circa 1961.
The Fine Arts Quartet was comprised of:
Leonard Sorkin, violin
Abram Loft, violin
Irving Ilmer, viola
The New York Woodwind Quintet was comprised of:
Samuel Baron, flute
Ronald Roseman, oboe
David Glazer, clarinet
Ralph Froelich, French horn
Art Weisberg, bassoon
The edition heard here was prepared by the New York Woodwind Quintet’s Samuel Baron. There are fine liner notes (uncredited) on the reverse side of the jacket, printed in English only. The striking cover design is similarly uncredited.
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket, still largely in the original shrinkwrap, is near-MINT. Aside from some minuscule bumping at corners, there are no flaws to speak of and the jacket appears virtually as new – overall, a truly fine collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Although the surfaces are not absolutely silent, this is a fine copy and the playback is quite superb. Those requiring flawless or NM surfaces are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.
