Jacket EX / LP NM / US pressing

This wonderful LP from Columbia Masterworks (M 30294, US pressing, brown label, stereo) features Philippe Entremont conducting the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in an all-Satie album, warmly recorded at EMI Studio No. 1, Abbey Road, London, on 22 May 1970.

The exact contents are as follows, all works by Erik Satie:

A1

Parade

16:11

A2

Gymnopédie No. 1 (orch. Claude Debussy)

2:49

A3

Gymnopédie No. 3 (orch. Claude Debussy)

3:29

B1

Relâche Part I

9:25

B2

Relâche Part II

13:28

There have been fine Satie orchestral albums from the likes of Abravanel and, more recently, Plasson, but in sardonic wit, pungency, and poetry, Entremont bests them all, and he and the RPO are afforded superlative sonices.

This album was produced by Paul Myers and engineered by Robert Gooch, Roy Emerson, and Michael FitzHenry. The remarkable cover art was executed by James Grashow, and there are splendid liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket, excerpts from an interview, with Philippe Entremont.

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT. There is slight bumping at corners, as well as mild discoloration, but that is all. There are no seamsplits, bends, owners’ markings, or other defects, and the album remains solid, bright, and highly attractive – overall, an excellent collector's copy.

The condition of the LP is near-MINT and playback is superb – overall, a truly fine collector's copy.
