Ensemble Wolfgang von Karajan: Mozart organ works - Schwann AMS 66, lovely copy
Jacket EX / LP NM / German pressing
This beautiful LP – a very fine collector’s copy – from Schwann (AMS 66, German Electrola pressing, gray label, stereo) features the Ensemble Wolfgang von Karajan in performances of three works for mechanical organ by Mozart, as well as the same composer’s remarkable Adagio & Fugue in C minor K. 546 / 426, and album origiinally released on the Charlin label.
The exact contents are as follows, with timings shown in parenthesis:
Adagio & Fugue in C minor K. 546 / 426 (7:57)
Fantasie in F minor K. 594 (9:31)
Fantasie in F minor K. 608 (11:21)
Andante in F Major K. 616 (6:45)
The Ensemble Wolfgang von Karajan was comprised of Hedy von Karajan, Wolfgang Wünsch, and Wolfgang von Karajan. Incidentally, used for this recording was the very same organ of Kirchheimbolanden Castle Church that Mozart would have heard in 1778.
This album was produced by the great André Charlin and recorded in the warm acoustics of the Grosser Saal of the Mozarteum, Salzburg, on 15 September 1964.
On the reverse side of the jacket are re-printed the original liner notes by producer Carl de Nys, provided in German only. The striking cover design was executed by Hoppe + Werry.
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT. There is minor bumping at corners, but really that is all. There are no seamsplits, bends, owners’ markings, or other defects, and the album remains solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive – overall, a lovely collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT and the playback is superb – overall, this rates as a very fine collector's copy.
