Dorati/LSO: Stravinsky in Memoriam (Le Chant du Rossignol, etc.) - Philips 6513 006
Jacket NM / LP NM / Dutch pressing
This beautiful LP from Philips (6513 006, Dutch pressing, promo copy, red/silver label, stereo) entitled "In Memoriam Igor Stravinsky · 1882-1971" was issued in wake of the composer's death and features landmark performances by conductor Antal Dorati and the London Symphony Orchestra, recordings first issued by Mercury Living Presence, but here presented in sound just as vivid and vibrant, and arguably in a smoother sounding pressing.
Included are the following works:
Le Chant du Rossignol – rec. 22/24 June 1964
Scherzo à la russe – rec. 27 June 1964
Feu d'artifice – rec. 27 June 1964
Tango – rec. 7 July 1964
Quatro études pour orchestre – rec. 7 July 1964
All sessions were held in London's Watford Town Hall (producer: Harold Lawrence / engineer: Robert Eberenz) and fully exemplify the 'Golden Age' of stereo recording.
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is near-MINT. There is some very minor bumping/wear at corners, but that is all. Otherwise, the jacket appears almost as new. There are no seamsplits, bends, or owners' markings, and the whole remains extremely solid, bright, and very attractive in appearance – overall, a very fine collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT and plays without defect – a superb collector's copy.
