Dorati/CSO: Bartok Miraculous Mandarin Suite + Hungarian Sketches - Mercury MG 50151

$7.00 USD

Mercury (LP)

Jacket VG+ / LP EX / US pressing

This striking LP from Mercury (MG 50151, US pressing, plum/silver label, mono – no stereo edition exists, original inner sleeve included) features conductor Antal Dorati and in a stunning all-Bartok program, surely one of the finest of its kind from the early LP era.

The exact discographic details are as follows:

Bartok: Suite from “The Miraculous Mandarin”

> Antal Dorati conducting the Chicago Symphony Orchestra

(rec. at Orchestra Hall, Chicago, on 8 January 1954)

Bartok: Hungarian Sketches

> Antal Dorati conducting the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra

(rec. at Northrop Auditorium, Minneapolis, on 17 November 1956)

Bartok: Roumanian Folk Dances

> Antal Dorati conducting the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra

(rec. at Northrop Auditorium, Minneapolis, on 17 November 1956)

With Reiner and Solti, Dorati was among the supreme interpreters of Bartok’s music (and much else besides) during the last century and this wonderful disc makes a superb calling card for his remarkable artistry. The sound throughout is absolutely first rate.

Incidentally, the amazing cover photo (taken by Radford Bascome) shows choreographer and dancer Todd Bolender. There are fine liner notes (uncredited) on the reverse side of the jacket, printed in Englsih only.

CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD+. There is light wear and discoloration along the edges, as well as discoloration and spotting to the rear panel. However, there are no seamsplits, owners' markings, bends, or other defects, and whole remains solid, bright, and highly attractive – overall, a very good collector's copy.

The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Although the surfaces are not absolutely silent, really this is a fine copy and the playback is enjoyable. Those requiring a flawless or near-MINT copy are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this is an excellent collector's copy.
