Del Mar: Gerhard Concerto for Orchestra / Rawsthorne Symphony No. 3 - Argo ZRG 553
Jacket VG / LP NM
This outstanding LP from Argo (ZRG 553, UK Decca pressing, green/silver oval label – ED1, stereo) features conductor Norman Del Mar and the BBC Symphony Orchestra in brilliant performances of Alan Rawthsorne’s Symphony No. 3 and Roberto Gerhard’s Concerto for Orchestra. Both works were sumptuously reocrded in the fabled acoustics of Kingsway Hall, London, during 4-6 April 1967.
This album was produced by Michael Bremner and engineered by Kenneth Wilkinson. There are insightful liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by composer John McCabe, while the striking jacket design was executed by George Dalby.
CONDITION – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD. There is some ringwear and general shelfwear. However, there are no seamsplits, bends, or owners' markings, and the album remains solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive – overall, a very good collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT. Although surfaces are not absolutely silent (and thus I have rated it NM vs. MINT) this is a fine copy and playback is superb. If you must have perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as a NM collector's copy.
