Dalgat/USSR Radio SO: Prokofiev Sinfonietta / Franck Psyche - MK D 07581/2 (a)
Jacket VG / LP EX / Russian pressing
This fascinating and elusive LP from Mezhdunarodnaya Kniga · MK (D 07581-07582 (a), Soviet pressing, blue/silver label, mono – no stereo edition exists) features conductor Gemal Dalgat and the USSR Radio Symphony Orchestra in highly compelling accounts of Franck’s Psyche and Prokofiev’s Sinfonietta in A Major Op. 48, both recorded in Moscow in the 1950s.
Born in Dagestan in 1920, Dalgat studied under Boris Khaikin. A highly gifted conductor, he regrettably made few recordings, the most famous being that of Prokofiev’s Love of Three Oranges. There is no doubt more in the Russian radio archives and one can only hope that more of his artistry will come to light one day.
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD. There is a a small tear to the rear panel, as well as minuscule bumping at corners and shelfwear. However, there are no seamsplits, bends, owners' markings, or other defects, and the whole remains solid, bright, and attractive – overall, a very good collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Although the surfaces are not absolutely silent, really this is a fine copy and playback is superb, close to NM. Those requiring a flawless or near-MINT copy are advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this is an excellent collector's copy.
